The Education Advisory Committee of the Orange County Firefighters Museum announced the recipient of the 2nd Annual Orange County Fire Prevention Educator of the Year Award in preparation for the reception being held at the museum on June 2nd.
Barbara Gasperetti is a lieutenant in the Coldenham Fire Company, a fire prevention educator at both the Berea and East Coldenham Elementary Schools in the Valley Central School District, an Orange AHRC employee at the Jean Black School for the developmentally disabled, and she is the second recipient to receive this award. Criteria for the award include innovative ways of presenting fire prevention and fire safety education to the public. Members of the Education Advisory Committee joined with members of the museum’s Board of Directors as well as John Horan, Orange County Emergency Management to choose the award recipient. Content, sustainability, target groups, documented results and involvement of other organizations in the education program are 5 factors the committee based their decision on. After reviewing several quality candidates Barbara Gasperetti was the winner of the award.
This year there were several nominees for the award and all of them were outstanding fire prevention educators and all of them deserved recognition. The selection committee had a very difficult job in making a final selection. All those involved in the award process agree that fire prevention and safety education are extremely important to Orange County citizens and that volunteers should be recognized for their efforts and dedication to serving the public.
The reception honoring Barbara will be held on Saturday, June 2nd, from 5 to 7 pm. The event which is open to the public includes an evening of fine wine, appetizers, music and a silent auction to be held at the education center located behind the museum at 141 Clinton Street in the Village of Montgomery. Tickets are $20 per person and can be purchased by calling 845-457-9666.
